Onward and Outward began trading the same year as Foot and Mouth disease was hitting the headlines (a worrying start!). We felt that our aim of offering quality outdoor camping, climbing and walking equipment, coupled with extensive hands on knowledge, provided us with a niche that the big multiples seemed not to provide. Our attitude is that as long as we can provide the customer with friendly and professional advice on any aspect of the outdoors we feel as though we have achieved our aim.
The best kit
In our opinion we only offer the best kit to suit our customer's specific needs and although from a harsh business money making point of view this may not be the most affective way of making money. We feel more content and happier with the notion that our customers have left the shop with a "feel good factor" and purchased an item that will serve them well and do what they originally want it to do - and sometimes more !!
The Shop
The shop is a small, independent retailer in the lovely market town of Clitheroe, situated in the Ribble Valley, on the border of the Yorkshire Dales and 1.5 hours from the fantastic terrain of the Lake district. Onward and Outward has been in existence for over six years and is co-owned by man and wife team Chris and Cheryl (see meet the team above). We employ three members of staff as well as ourselves, of which Mike and Iain are on the shop floor (see meet the team above).
We have recently extended our shop floorspace to include a comprehensive camping area, providing even more of a knowledge base for our customers and providing a much better service.
Where we are
The business has grown from strength to strength over the last few years and we have many happy and returning customers. Our pride lies in our ability to offer a good hassle-free service to everyone!
We are centrally based on King Street in Clitheroe town centre and there is loads of parking behind the shop, or alternatively in the market car park (market days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday). We can offer lots of local walk information and some FREE literature on the surrounding area - we look forward to seeing you or hearing from you soon.
